Sunday April 30th
Following the cruise we took a ferry to the Isle of Wight, then a bus ride to Alum Bay and The Needles, then back to West Cowes to eat dinner at the Fountain Inn where we spent the night. We also took a walk through town and down to the Floating Bridge (a ferry) which we ventured out on the next day. On the walk back there was a rainbow at the Cowes Yacht Club. Many shops in town were selling momentos of the coronation of King Charles III coming on May 6th.
Monday May 1st
Another stroll through West Cowes took us to the dock of the Floating Bridge. We took the short ride across the River Medina to East Cowes. From there a bus ride all around East Cowes ending back and the ferry for a ride back to West Cowes. Then back to Southapton via the larger ferry. From there we took an Uber to Ewhurst Green and the White Dog Inn. We ate dinner in their pub and made many new doggie friends!
Tuesday May 2nd
We hooked up with a long distant relative of Brad's to tour around churches and cemeteries of their ancestors:
St. Giles' Church in Bodiam
St. George's Church in Brede
Parish Church of Saint John the Baptist in Sedlescombe
St. Bartholomew's Church in Barwash
St. Mary the Virgin Church in Ninfield
Followed by a drive along the sea in Bexhill. Later we hiked through some fields with sheep
to Bodiam Castle near Robertsbridge and then back to the White Dog Inn for dinner
Wednesday May 3rd and Thursday May 4th
After a farewell breakfast at the White Dog Inn, we taxied to the train station in Robertsbridge and rode to London. Another taxi took us to our hotel and then we walked to Three Magpies for lunch. A quiet evening in the hotel on Wednesday then the long flight home on Thursday (leaving London just in time before the Coronation!).
